چکیده

We present an expanded sample of 75 Milky Way Cepheids with Hubble Space Telescope (HST) photometry and Gaia EDR3 parallaxes which we use to recalibrate the extragalactic distance ladder refine determination constant. All HST observations were obtained same instrument (WFC3) filters (F555W, F814W, F160W) used for imaging in Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) hosts. The WFC3 spatial scanning mode mitigate saturation reduce pixel-to-pixel calibration errors, reaching a mean photometric error 5 millimags per observation. new parallaxes, vastly improved since DR2, Period-Luminosity (PL) relation these simultaneously calibrate parallax offset. resulting geometric Cepheid luminosities has 1.0% precision, better than any alternative anchor. Applied SNe~Ia, it results measurement constant 73.0 +/- 1.4 km/sec/Mpc, good agreement conclusions based on earlier data releases. also find slope PL Way, metallicity dependence its zeropoint, be values derived from other galaxies. In combination best complementary sources calibration, reach 1.8% precision H_0=73.2 1.3 4.2 sigma difference prediction Planck CMB under LambdaCDM. expect ~1.3% near term ~40 SNe

Hubble space telescope expansion parallaxes of the planetary nebulae

We have combined two epochs of Hubble Space Telescope WFPC2 imaging data with ground-based expansion velocities to determine distances to three planetary nebulae (NGC 6578, NGC 6884, and IC 2448). We used two variants of the expansion parallax technique—a gradient method and a magnification method— to determine the distances. The results from the two methods agree to within the errors. A fourth...

Milky Way Rotation from Cepheids

The 87 new 0 determinations were added to the existing sample of cepheids with known radial velocities, forming an extended sample of 278 galactic classical cepheids with reliable radial velocity and photometry. We then calculated distances for these objects through a Period-Luminosity-Colour relation due to Feast & Walker (1987). The position of the cepheids in the galactic disk as given by th...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

The Discovery of Cepheids and a New Distance to Ngc2841 Using the Hubble Space Telescope

We report on the discovery of Cepheids in the spiral galaxy NGC2841, based on observations made with the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 on board the Hubble Space Telescope. NGC2841 was observed over 12 epochs using the F555W filter, and over 5 epochs using the F814W filter. Photometry was performed using the DAOPHOT/ALLFRAME package. We discovered a total of 29 variables, including 18 high-q...

Cosmic Shear and Power Spectrum Normalization with the Hubble Space Telescope

Weak lensing by large-scale structure provides a direct measurement of matter fluctuations in the universe. We report a measurement of this ‘cosmic shear’ based on 271 WFPC2 archival images from the Hubble Space Telescope Medium Deep Survey (MDS). Our measurement method and treatment of systematic effects were discussed in an earlier paper. We measure the shear variance on scales ranging from 0...
